DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

DAY 0: JOMO KENYATTA AIRPORT AND TRANSFER TO NAIROBI

We will leave from Nairobi for the first destination not later than 6 a.m.

We recommend you to stay one night in Nairobi the day before your safari. You can use this time visiting the city and its main attractions, such as Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi National Museums, etc.. Or you can just rest and refresh up after your flight.

You will meet your guide/driver on the following day , leaving for the first destination.

We have selected the best accomodation for you. You can choose between:

DAY1: MASAI MARA

After breakfast, move to Masai Mara travelling a scenographic road across the ancient Rift Valley.

You will reach Masai Mara plains in the late morning.

Game drive en route to your camp where you will enjoy a fabulous lunch.

Explore the open grassy plains of Masai Mara in the afternoon.

Overstay and dinner at your camp.

You may decide to visit the exclusive Mara North Conservancy, instead Masai Mara National Reserve.

Mara North Conservancy is a protected area north of Masai Mara National Reserve, being part of the same ecosystem. It is run by local masai community and the rules here are less restrictive than within the National Reserve. It is an area more secluded and exclusive, far away from mass tourism, because only those who stay in the limited number of camps and lodges in this area can visit it. Here infact you can drive off road, approching predators very closely, do walk safaris, have meals in the bush, do night game drives (here it is very common and easy to see predators on a hunt , because of the presence of big lion prides and because of off road permission). The only difference between Mara North Conservancy and the most famous Masai Mara National Reserve is that you will not be able to see the crossing of wildebeest and zebras on the river within the conservancy, because wildlife don’t cross Mara River in the upper north, but you will see anyway big herds of animals on movement during migrations.

Our selected lodge in the Mara North Conservancy is Royal Mara.

We have selected the best accomodation for you. You can choose between:

DAY 2: MASAI MARA

You have all the day to explore the Masai Mara in depth, with your personal guide.

During midday hours you can rest up in your tent and enjoy uninterrupted views over the river, the perfect spot to quietly observe or contemplate the wilderness.

Between the months of July and October one million wildebeest, accompanied by vast numbers of zebra and gazelles, make the long and dangerous trek to this corner of Kenya. But if you visit Mara ecosystem during other periods, no worries, you will find a lot of wildlife anyway , since this is the area with the higher concentration of herbivores and predators in all Kenya and Africa.

DAY 3: NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast this morning you will have a game drive en route to Masai Mara main gate, heading to Nairobi.

After about 5 or 6 hours drive, you will reach the capital of Kenya, where you will have your fantastic lunch within the quite and peaceful residential area, called Karen.

In the afternoon you will visit with your guide the Nairobi National Park, where the main attraction are the black and white rhinos. The park is a real protected area, where animals live free.

Dinner and overstay at your lodge.

We have selected the best accomodation for you:

DAY 4: AMBOSELI

Today your next destination is the famous Amboseli National Park. Everyone wants to experience the magnificent views over the border to Kilimanjaro, and feel the romantic atmosphere that comes from being in its presence.

The National Park has a thriving elephant population which sets you up for that ‘must have’ photograph in the foreground of the stunning snow-capped Mountain.

Leaving from Nairobi, the distance to Amboseli won’t be very long: about 4 hours drive. You will reach Amboseli entrance at around 10/10,30, in time for still having a nice morning game drive before to reach the lodge for lunch. We don’t like tarmac roads and we try our best to avoid it when it is possible. We are lucky because Amboseli, Tsavo West and Lumo Sanctuary are quite close each other. This is why it is good not to skip any of these parks to avoid to travel in the middle of traffic, even if most of safari agencies unfortunately do that just to reduce the number of days on safari and, consequently, the cost.

Lunch at the lodge.

Afternoon game drive.

Dinner and overstay at the lodge (inside the park).

We have selected the best accomodation for you:

DAY 5: TSAVO WEST

Today we leave Amboseli and Kilimanjaro and we head to the nearby Tsavo West National Park.

The distance between Amboseli and Tsavo West is about 1 hour and a half, and you will travel on a secondary road in the middle of Maasai villages and plantations.

As you approach Tsavo West National Park you will observe the Green Hills of Africa, so beloved by Hernest Hemingway.

You will then travel through an expanse of lush, jungle-like forest where you may encounter elephants, kudu, eland and oryx.

And just before reaching your camp, you will visit the moon-like landscape at Shetani Lava Flow, a vast expanse of folded black lava which spreads for 50 sq km across the savannah at the foot of Chyulu Hills.

You will arrive at your camp by lunchtime.

In the afternoon, you’ll stretch your legs while exploring Mzima Springs on foot, a series of natural springs inhabited by hippos and crocodiles. The natural filtration process made by the volcanic lava rocks of Chyulu Hills gives rise to Mzima’s famously clear stream, which flows through a series of pools and rapids.

You will end the day with another game drive en route to your camp.

Dinner and overstay.

We have selected the best accomodation for you. The first is a high level tented camp, while the second one is a luxury tented camp:

DAY 6: TAITA HILLS

Morning game drive in Tsavo West searching for wildlife and the elusive leopard that lives in that area, just before to cross the southern part of the park. You will reach the exclusive Lumo Wildlife Sanctuary among Taita Hills in the late morning.

Game drive in the Sanctuary up to lunch time, when you will reach your lodge, which has one of the most stunning views of all Kenya.

During midday hours you can rest up in your tent and enjoy uninterrupted views over the endless savannah, the perfect spot to quietly observe or contemplate the wilderness.

At around 16,00, as usual, you will go out for another thrilling afternoon game drive.

During sunset, enjoy an unforgettable sundowner, with a drink in hand and 180 degrees view on the endless savannah below.

After that you will start the night game drive, looking for nocturnal wildlife, like genets, african civets, bushbabies and , yes!, predators on a hunt! If you are lucky you may spot the elusive melanistic serval, common in this area but very rare in Africa!

You will end with a fabulous dinner at the lodge.

We have selected the best accomodation for you.

DAY 7: YOUR JOURNEY ENDS

Your last morning game drive within Lumo Sanctuary has arrived.

You will leave from the Sanctuary just after lunch, at around 13.00 and you will reach the coast after about 5 hours drive.

Your Beach Holiday has started: you may choose to stay at our exclusive Nyumba ya Paka Boutique Hotel or another place.
